XREAL AURA is the first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR. The transparent glasses weigh under 95 grams, and a portable compute puck handles the heavy processing, so the headset stays light while still running spatial apps, Gemini, and Google Play titles.
AURA's lenses are transparent, so you can see the real world while spatial content is projected into your field of view. The 70-degree field of view leaves room to see several spatial and 2D apps at once. Gemini on Android XR can understand what you're seeing and doing, both in the real world and on your screens, so you can get help across your apps through a natural conversation. Google positions AURA for use around the house, at the office, or on a plane.
The glasses stay light because the heavy hardware sits in a portable compute puck connected by a cable. The puck holds the battery and the new Snapdragon® Reality Elite platform from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., which debuts on AURA. Google says this gives users both high-performance spatial computing and lightweight comfort. Android XR brings Gemini and apps from Google Play to the device, including over 150 apps made for XR.
A workspace that travels with you
On AURA you can open several apps at once, such as a browser, work documents, and a music app, and arrange them around you at any size. You can pair a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, or use the puck as a trackpad, to build a desktop setup on a couch, at a hotel desk, or on an airplane tray table.
Wired Mirroring lets a laptop join the workspace. Connect it to AURA with a USB-C cable that supports video output, and the laptop's screen appears as a window you can resize and place anywhere. No software installation is required, and the window can sit alongside Android XR apps. Because the display is visible only to you, Google notes you can open a confidential document in a public space.
Gemini works across everything in view, including the laptop window. You can ask it to tidy up your windows or brainstorm about what you're looking at. Starting today, Gemini can also share your view and highlight what to focus on, in the room around you or on your screen.
A private theater for your shows and memories
AURA lets you place a large screen wherever you're most comfortable, with YouTube, Google TV, or a favorite streaming service. You can dim the lenses to fade out the surroundings, and the lenses become transparent again when someone comes into view.
Plenty of immersive content is already available on YouTube and Google TV, including 180- and 360-degree videos and 3D movies. New immersive films and performances made for XR also arrive with AURA, including “Nevatars,” co-directed by Andy Serkis and Josh Nelson Youssef; “Galapagos: the Last Eden,” narrated by Margot Robbie and produced by Atlantic Studios; and the San Francisco Ballet's “Nutcracker.”
Spatial view converts almost any video, photo, or game into 3D with a tap, and now supports higher-resolution content. Window follow mode keeps your app centered in front of you in any position. When you're moving around, the app shrinks into a mini view at the edge of your vision so your path stays clear. Google Photos will also add a spatial gallery this year that wraps your library around you. You can pan from a full year down to a single day with your hands and open a favorite memory in 3D.
An arcade wherever you are
AURA gives games a bigger screen, whether you're at an airport gate or on a couch. Because it runs Android, you can play thousands of mobile and tablet games from Google Play, or bring in games from a handheld or PC with Wired Mirroring. You can keep other apps open beside a game, such as a YouTube walkthrough or a chat with friends. If you get stuck in an Android title or while streaming from a PC or console, you can ask Gemini to talk you through your next move without putting down the controller.
Games made for XR from studios including Owlchemy Labs and Resolution Games appear in your space, and you control them with your hands. New titles coming to AURA include Fallout Factions and Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars.
