AMD brings FSR 4.1 to Radeon RX 6000 GPUs

AMD is pushing its machine learning upscaler onto a much wider range of hardware, reaching cards that are already years old. Handhelds and laptops get a version built specifically for them, and one console is still waiting in line. Here's what changes for owners, and what they'll need to know.

AMD is expanding support for FSR Upscaling 4.1, its machine learning-based upscaling technology, to a broad range of platforms. The technology reconstructs crisp, high-quality visuals from lower-resolution frames, and AMD says it delivers “a significant leap in image quality over AMD FSR™ 3.1.”

The rollout builds on earlier steps. AMD launched FSR 4 exclusively on Radeon RX 9000 Series GPUs in 2025. In July 2026, it delivered FSR Upscaling 4.1 for Radeon RX 7000 Series GPUs and promised arrival on more platforms. AMD says it has since further streamlined and optimized the technology to reach more devices.

Support Across Platforms

FSR Upscaling 4.1 now covers AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics cards, AMD Ryzen AI Max processors, laptops powered by AMD Ryzen AI 9 processors, and gaming handhelds featuring the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A processors. Xbox Series X|S consoles are coming soon.

Radeon RX 6000 Series: AMD optimized the INT8 model originally created for FSR Upscaling 4.1 on Radeon RX 7000 Series GPUs, enabling support for Radeon RX 6000 Series GPUs, first released in 2020. AMD says owners get a major upgrade over the FSR 3.1 solution without buying new components.

Ryzen AI Max systems: FSR Upscaling 4.1 makes its official debut on mobile APUs in high-performance laptops and mini-PC workstations, such as AMD Ryzen AI Halo PCs or the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 and TUF A14 laptops. AMD says devices with Ryzen AI Max APUs can turn on the feature for boosts in visual sharpness and fluidity in hundreds of games.

Ryzen AI 9 and Z2 handhelds and laptops: AMD introduced a new, more efficient version of FSR Upscaling 4.1 built for this class of hardware. The streamlined model is meant to deliver high performance for handhelds and mainstream laptops. AMD says the visual gain will be clear even on the small screens of portable gaming devices, such as the ASUS ROG XBOX Ally X featuring the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor. Users of mainstream laptops with Ryzen AI 9 processors will benefit as well.

Xbox: In the announcement video, Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet confirms that FSR Upscaling 4.1 is coming soon to Xbox Series X|S consoles.

Other updates: AMD also announced FSR 4 Vulkan support and improvements to frame pacing for FSR Frame Generation. Details are on AMDGaming.com.

Key Features at a Glance

  • INT8 model on Radeon RX 6000: Optimized from the RX 7000 version, first-generation 2020 cards gain the upgrade without new hardware.
  • Ryzen AI Max support: Laptops and mini-PC workstations, including the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 and TUF A14, get FSR Upscaling 4.1 for sharper, smoother play in hundreds of games.
  • Streamlined handheld and laptop model: A new, more efficient version built for Ryzen AI 9 and Z2 processors aims to keep performance high on small screens and mainstream laptops.
  • Xbox Series X|S: Console support is coming soon, bringing the upscaling to a console platform.
  • FSR 4 Vulkan support: Announced alongside the release, extending the technology to Vulkan.
  • Frame pacing improvements: Better frame pacing for FSR Frame Generation.

Availability

FSR Upscaling 4.1 ships as part of the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 driver, available on AMD.com. Xbox Series X|S support is coming soon. AMD notes that feature availability and release timing may vary by device, and users should check with their handheld original equipment manufacturer for official timelines.
