Google is introducing a new experience on Android to help users safely and easily move passwords and passkeys between password managers in just a few clicks—no file downloads required.

Transfer passwords and passkeys with ease

Historically, switching password managers meant downloading passwords into an unencrypted text file, leaving them vulnerable on your device. Passkeys couldn't be transferred at all, forcing users to recreate them across multiple sites and apps. The new process simplifies this:

• Start the move: Open your new password manager app and select the option to import or copy passwords and passkeys from another provider. The password manager will hand the task to Android.
• Let Android securely coordinate the data transfer: Android automatically detects existing password managers on your device and shows which ones you can import from.
• Review and authorize: Tap “Continue” and Android brings you to your existing password manager to select, review, and authorize the transfer. Your data transfers securely between apps in just a few seconds.

Manage your data, your way

The transfer experience is already available on Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden Password Manager, and Dashlane, with more partners to follow. The feature is designed to give users complete control over their data and the freedom to switch providers whenever they want.
