Developers Expand Apps Across iPhone Duo's Large Inner Display

Apple is showing how familiar apps, from streaming and productivity tools to games and local shops, are being reshaped for its new folding iPhone. Layouts now shift as the screen opens, folds, or rests on a table, turning a pocket device into something closer to a desktop. A few surprises await.

Apple is showing how apps from streaming services, productivity tools, games, and local businesses are being adapted for iPhone Duo, a folding device whose inner display gives apps a larger canvas. The apps adjust their layouts to each position the device can take: fully open, partially folded, propped up on a table, or closed.

Entertainment and Sports

Netflix lets members scroll through Clips on the outer display, then open iPhone Duo to keep watching on the large nano-texture inner display. Clips switch seamlessly between vertical and horizontal views. Prime Video and Paramount+ are joining Apple TV in using the larger canvas for movies and series. When iPhone Duo is partially folded, Prime Video plays content on the top half of the display while X-Ray details showing cast and bonus content appear on the bottom half. Paramount+ offers richer playback controls and expanded browsing for shows and live channels. When propped open on a table, users can enjoy content hands-free, without a stand.

Sports fans can follow MLB and PGA Tour with live games and highlights, plus real-time scores, stats, and leaderboards on the larger display. iQIYI offers more room to discover shows and films and adjusts its playback controls to each position.

Productivity and Communication

Microsoft Word and Outlook will bring a desktop-class experience to users' pockets. Word places its formatting tools alongside a document, and Outlook shows the inbox next to a full message. Zoom turns the inner display into an immersive video conference room, so users can see shared content and other participants at the same time. Slack brings a user's whole workspace into view, making it easier to follow channels and automate tasks. Salesforce helps teams manage customer relationships and act on business insights, with more of their dashboards in view.

Messaging apps also benefit. KakaoTalk lets users keep track of multiple chats and groups while diving into a specific conversation, without switching back and forth. BAND gives communities more room to keep up with posts, events, and photo albums in a single space. Airmail shows more of a user's inbox and messages at once.

    Notes, Tasks, and Creativity

Fantastical shows calendars, tasks, and menus together on the larger display, so users can take in more of their schedule at a glance. Notewise brings notes, documents, and AI tools together in a single view, while Things and Bear make task management and organization simpler onscreen at once. Craft offers more room across notes, tasks, and documents, with a style gallery and live preview appearing side by side when iPhone Duo unfolds. Tiimo features a compact view when iPhone Duo is closed for quickly checking the day's plans and ticking off tasks. When propped up, it pairs a visual timer with notes and subtasks for hands-free routines and focus.

Creators get more room as well. Detail uses the new Core AI framework to run AI models on device, making content creation fast and easy on the large inner display. In Edits, creators can view their full creative studio, including timeline, editing tools, video, and more. VLLO gives video creators more editing controls and footage onscreen at once. Xmind brings mind maps and outlines together in a side-by-side view, letting users explore the big picture while working through the details. WPS Office adapts its interface and controls to each position.

    Games

Asphalt Legends lets players race more than 350 cars against up to seven online opponents, with detailed cars and dynamic lighting filling the inner display. Zenless Zone Zero brings its fast-paced action to every way of holding iPhone Duo, with controls that adapt to each position. It will be updated for iPhone Duo next month. UnGodly, a dark fantasy RPG from Azra Games, adjusts its controls and view for each display, including a taller view of its open worlds when iPhone Duo is closed. UnGodly launches on the App Store in November.

Sneaky Sasquatch and Retrocade take full advantage of the folding display, offering an immersive experience when opened and pick-up-and-play fun when closed. Deck-Man turns iPhone Duo into a retro cassette player: users open it to pick an album and insert the tape, then close it to start listening to music from Apple Music.

    Shopping, Food, and Travel

NYT Cooking shows more detailed recipes with richer visuals, making it easier to follow along while cooking. LTK lets shoppers watch creators' videos and browse the exact products featured in the same view. Lowe's lets home improvement shoppers take a closer look at finishes, materials, and design details. Shop shows more products in its feed, with more room to discover, buy, and track orders. OpenTable adapts its layout, keeping restaurant details, availability, and booking easy to navigate. DoorDash will make it easy to track a delivery on a larger map later this year. Yelp puts maps and reviews side by side so users can compare local businesses without tapping back and forth.

Lyft gives riders more room to compare ride options and see the route at the same time alongside a larger route map. American Airlines places boarding passes, seat selection, and terminal maps within easy reach. United Airlines moves its navigation to the right side of the display, giving travelers quick access to booking flights and managing trips. Flighty offers a dedicated flight-tracking mode for when iPhone Duo is propped up.

    Lifestyle, Music, and Reading

Sky Guide pairs edge-to-edge star maps with Liquid Glass controls. Tide Guide brings tide charts and live weather radar into one view. DJs can mix on the go with edjing Mix, which gives them more room for two decks, audio effects, and one-tap stem separation. Next Shot helps golfers find and preview courses with immersive imagery, plus detailed views of stats and scorecards. Tripsy tailors its navigation for trip planning, and SmartGym displays routines and exercise details side by side. Moises lets musicians adjust vocals and instruments while following along with lyrics and chords.

For reading, WEBTOON and books on NAVER SERIES get a larger display, and KakaoPage delivers an immersive, book-like reading experience with Split View. AMap offers a portrait view for the road ahead and a landscape view for the bigger picture. rednote provides more room to discover photos and posts, with a video view that brings playback and comments together. Taobao shows more products, with zoom gestures to adjust the number of items per row and a side-by-side view of product images and details.

    Key Features at a Glance

    • Adaptive playback: Prime Video places content on the top half and X-Ray details on the bottom half when partially folded, which keeps supplementary information visible without interrupting the show.
    • On-device AI: Detail uses the new Core AI framework to run AI models on device, speeding up content creation on the inner display.
    • Pose-aware controls: Zenless Zone Zero and UnGodly adjust their controls for each position, so gameplay fits however the device is held.
    • Retro cassette mode: Deck-Man opens to pick an album and closes to play music from Apple Music, turning the folding design into a feature.
