Google Arts & Culture is marking its 15-year milestone with a redesigned mobile app. Over the past decade and a half, the platform has partnered with more than 3,000 cultural institutions and artists across more than 90 countries, aiming to preserve and make the world's art and culture accessible to everyone.

The updated experience helps users navigate partner archives, including high-resolution artworks, archaeological 3D artifacts, fashion, performance art, sports, craft, culinary heritage, natural history, science, design, and nature.

A new conversational search

At the heart of the update is a new conversational search feature. Users can ask any question about arts and culture in their own words — whether querying “Caravaggio's chiaroscuro,” finding “impressionist museums in Paris,” browsing “images captured by the Webb telescope,” wondering “what are bento boxes,” or simply admiring “cats in art” — and receive visual answers paired with insightful explanations and curated stories from partner archives.

A redesigned homepage

The new homepage consolidates the entire app into a single feed for quick daily discovery. Modular sections surface bite-sized cultural stories, daily highlights, and access to interactive features.

Two new AI experiments debut with the update: Chrono Look, which lets users virtually try on historical attire across different eras through sketches and realistic renderings, and Dial-an-Artist, an interactive tool for simulated conversations with historical figures about their work.

An expanded City Guide now features 27 newly added destinations with local cultural landmarks and real-time cultural events.

App Features and Ownership Details

The app is free to download on iOS and Android. It is useful for exploring museum collections remotely, taking expert-curated virtual tours, saving and sharing personal galleries, finding nearby museums and exhibitions, translating exhibit information, and using the camera to identify artworks. Google Arts & Culture is owned by Google, part of Alphabet; the available sources do not provide a separate headcount for the studio or product team.
