Corsair's 1200W RM1200e Guards GPUs With Per-Pin Protection

Corsair has unveiled a flagship power supply built to protect high-end graphics cards from one of the most talked-about hazards in PCs. Its PinProtect technology watches every power pin feeding the GPU, and the company says it can step in before a connector overheats. Here is how the system works and what to do when it triggers.

Corsair has launched the RM1200e, a Platinum-certified 1200W power supply and the new flagship of its best-selling RMe family. It is the first Corsair power supply with a native 12V-2×6 connection that includes PinProtect, the company's per-pin overcurrent protection for high-end graphics cards.

PinProtect monitors the current flowing through each power pin in real time. If the current on any pin exceeds a preset threshold for too long, the system reduces power to the connection and triggers a protective GPU shutdown. Corsair advises users who see this to power down the system completely, check for loose or improperly seated connections, and restart only once those connections are secure. PinProtect runs automatically whenever the GPU is powered and needs no configuration. It monitors the six pins that carry 12V power to the GPU. Corsair says the technology is similar to its ThermalProtect PCIe 5.1 600W 12V-2×6 Cable, which launched earlier this year, and it works with the 12V-2×6 cable included with the RM1200e.

The RM1200e is Cybenetics Platinum certified and delivers up to 91% overall efficiency, which Corsair says lowers power consumption and reduces heat output. It is also Intel ATX 3.1 certified and PCIe 5.1 ready. Inside, it uses high-quality Japanese 105°C-rated capacitors, which Corsair says provide high heat tolerance and steady, reliable power.

Physically, the unit has a fully modular design, so users connect only the cables their system needs. It also introduces a new 3D Y-pattern fan grille, which Corsair describes as optimized for high airflow and low-noise operation. Premium debossed cables and low-profile cable combs are included for a cleaner build. Despite its 1200W output, the RM1200e keeps the compact 150mm depth of the RMe Series, which Corsair says makes installation easier in smaller cases. The included 12V-2×6 GPU cable has dual-tone connectors that give visual confirmation of a secure connection. The PSU comes in black and white.

Key Features at a Glance

  • PinProtect per-pin protection: Monitors current on each of the six GPU power pins in real time and limits power if a pin stays over its threshold, reducing the risk of damage from excessive current.
  • 1200W output: High-capacity power for high-end systems, in the 150mm-deep RMe chassis.
  • Cybenetics Platinum, up to 91%: Overall efficiency that Corsair says lowers power draw and heat.
  • Intel ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 ready: Support for current PC power requirements.
  • Japanese 105°C-rated capacitors: Corsair says these provide high heat tolerance and steady power.
  • Fully modular, debossed cables: Connect only what the build needs, with low-profile cable combs for tidy routing.
  • Dual-tone 12V-2×6 connectors: Visual confirmation that the GPU cable is seated securely.
  • 10-year warranty: Backed by Corsair's worldwide customer service and technical support network.
