Nintendo has officially revealed the first alternative colorway for the Nintendo Switch 2 controllers. Set for a February release, these new Joy-Con 2 variants represent the first cosmetic expansion for the system since its global launch in June 2025.
The new Light Purple (L) and Light Green (R) Joy-Con 2 controllers are scheduled to hit shelves on February 12. This release marks a departure from the console's standard light blue and orange color scheme. To ensure a cohesive look, the controllers will be packaged with matching wrist straps, maintaining the aesthetic standards set by the original hardware.
Pricing and Market Expectations
While Nintendo has not yet confirmed the official price for this specific set, industry trends provide a clear baseline. A standard pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers currently retails for $99.99. Historically, with the original Nintendo Switch, standard color variations maintained the same price point as the launch models, though limited edition sets occasionally carried a premium.
Hardware Integration and Design
A notable technical detail involves the console's physical integration. When the new variants are attached, the internal left and right strips of the main console—which are light blue and orange to match the launch controllers—remain unchanged.
Currently, these internal strips are only visible when the Joy-Cons are detached, and Nintendo has not yet announced a way for users to customize these specific hardware accents to match new color schemes.
The Evolution of the Switch 2 Ecosystem
Since the Nintendo Switch 2 arrived in mid-2025, the company has focused primarily on software bundles. Notable releases included the Mario Kart World launch bundle and the Pokémon Legends: Z-A package later in the year.
This announcement marks the first time Nintendo is offering purely cosmetic hardware customization for the new generation. Given that the predecessor featured dozens of controller and console variations over its lifespan, these Light Purple and Light Green models likely signal the beginning of a wide range of aesthetic options for the platform.
