The Star Wars franchise is about to explore a genre rarely touched by its big-budget games. Electronic Arts (EA), in partnership with Lucasfilm Games, has officially announced Star Wars Zero Company, a turn-based tactical strategy title that promises to bring the depth of games like XCOM to George Lucas's universe.
The Twilight of the Clone Wars
Zero Company is set during the final period of the Clone Wars, an era marked by conspiracies and brutal battles that shaped the fate of the galaxy. Unlike the legendary heroes we usually control, the game focuses on “professionals” operating in the shadows: surveillance, sabotage, and pure strategy.
The protagonist is Hawks, a former Republic officer leading an elite squad—Zero Company. A key feature is customization: players can customize Hawks' appearance and combat class, as well as manage a diverse team including Clone Troopers, astromech droids, mercenaries, and even Jedi.
Mechanics and Development
The game is being developed by Bit Reactor, a studio comprised of veterans who worked on strategy icons like XCOM and Civilization, in direct collaboration with Respawn Entertainment (creators of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor).
Confirmed Highlights:
- Choices with Consequences: Bit Reactor CEO Greg Foertsch stated that player choices will have significant impacts on the narrative and the fate of squad members.
- Combat Synergy: Building bonds between team members will unlock combined abilities on the battlefield.
- Next-Gen Visuals: The title is being built on Unreal Engine 5, promising a level of visual detail and lighting rarely seen in the tactical genre.
When Can We Play?
Star Wars Zero Company is scheduled for release in 2026. The game will be a single-player experience and will arrive on the following platforms:
- PC (available for wishlist on Steam and Epic Games Store)
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
With a focus on “grounded” storytelling and complex tactics, Zero Company emerges as a breath of fresh air for fans seeking something beyond frantic lightsaber action, focusing instead on intelligence and survival amidst galactic chaos.
