Railbreak DX, an expanded version of the original arcade shooter, is releasing today on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Play Anywhere with Xbox Cloud Streaming support. Julia Wolbach, from Dead Drop Studios, shares developer strategies to help you master the zombie-blasting experience.

Story Mode and Hidden Weapons
In Railbreak DX‘s Story Mode, you'll play as detective Lydia Daniels and mercenary Hank as they navigate Cypress Ridge during a zombie apocalypse. With automated camera control, you'll need sharp reflexes to locate powerful hidden weapons scattered throughout each level.
While your handgun is always available, Act IV features a magnum variant with heavily increased damage—watch the park benches carefully. A plasma-infused SMG also awaits discovery in the environment. Story Mode is the only place where you can pick up special weapons to change your gameplay approach.
An Expanded Roster of Survivors

Railbreak DX doubles the playable character roster from nine to 18 Survivors, each with distinct loadouts, firing rates, damage values, and unique quirks.
Michael
Michael excels at survivability: enemies can't inflict Poison or Bleed effects on him, eliminating the need to hunt for Blue and Red sprouts. The trade-off is an ammo-hungry shotgun that can prove dangerous on higher difficulties.
Rin
Rin maximizes score potential at the cost of fragility. Her special handgun can freeze enemies with ice bullets, but her damage is significantly reduced unless she lands headshots. Her katana fires sword beams that trigger a special state for increased points and damage—however, activating this state also triggers a random negative condition. Rin cannot dismember zombies, making her playstyle high-risk, high-reward.
Scoring and Combat Tips
- Avoid collateral damage: Shooting innocent civilians incurs a health penalty. Screen-clearing grenades and special infected explosions, however, won't punish you if civilians are caught in the blast.
- Grenades are a last resort: They clear the screen but reward minimal points. Focus instead on precision targeting. Headshots grant extra damage and points, while dismembering enemy limbs reduces their attack capabilities and mobility.
- Prioritize special enemies: Creatures like the Boom Boom and Kunoichi provide crowd-clearing explosions when defeated, creating additional scoring opportunities.
Additional Features
Railbreak DX includes dinosaur customization options, an Onslaught endless challenge mode, and unpredictable “Glitch” effects that alter gameplay. Xbox Cloud Streaming lets you play without downloading, while Xbox Play Anywhere keeps progress and achievements synced across PC and handheld devices.
Dead Drop Studios has planned future content updates and paid DLC to expand the experience.
