A New Co-op Adventure Arrives This October
We Were Here Tomorrow, the latest entry in Total Mayhem Games' cooperative puzzle series, is coming to XBOX Series X|S this October. The game takes players through a retro-futuristic research facility filled with asymmetric puzzles, time-bending challenges, and mysterious secrets waiting to be uncovered.
The Setup
The adventure begins with you and your partner searching the frozen Antarctic landscape for lost expedition members. When something goes wrong, your rescue mission takes an unexpected turn—you awaken in Norček Industries, a mysterious research facility overseen by Director Kathleen Bowe. The charismatic scientist-turned-manager seems eager to help, but as you explore deeper, it becomes clear there's more to her than meets the eye. At the heart of Norček's work lies a mysterious interdimensional rift with enormous consequences for the world.
Familiar Spaces, New Twists
The Greenhouse, one of the first areas in the game, may feel familiar to longtime We Were Here players, with references hidden throughout to locations and objects from previous adventures. But there's a crucial difference: the two players aren't experiencing the space in the same time. Actions taken in the past have consequences for the player in the future. With the ability to swap between time periods, players must carefully describe what they see and consider cause and effect beyond their immediate surroundings. Communication via walkie-talkie becomes essential as players compare their worlds and uncover how their separate experiences connect.
Gravity-Defying Challenges
Not every challenge separates players completely. In the Office of Tomorrow, players navigate spaces where the rules of gravity and architecture bend in unexpected ways. This section emphasizes traversal and experimentation, asking players to think creatively about using their tools in a shared space. According to Creative Director Martín Mittner, “These kinds of rooms give us the opportunity to evolve the We Were Here formula while keeping its cooperative heart intact. You're still relying on your partner, but now you may be navigating and experimenting together rather than always describing something from two completely separate places.”

Seeing Isn't Understanding
The Optics Lab exemplifies the game's traditional puzzle design: players can see one another but aren't in the same physical space. They must communicate clearly to understand what information the other needs to set up the proper sequence of laser refractions. The puzzle designers note that proximity and partial visibility don't necessarily make solutions easier—in fact, they create new opportunities for misunderstanding. The Optics Lab ranks among the more difficult puzzles in Act One, challenging players to investigate thoroughly, share information clearly, and work together to progress.
Into the Unknown
Later in the adventure, players cross the rift at Norček's heart, stepping into a realm entirely unlike anything before. Total Mayhem Games is keeping details about the area Beyond the Rift deliberately vague, wanting it to feel like a genuine step into the unknown.
What It's Really About
Ultimately, We Were Here Tomorrow centers on the relationships between players. The game creates the framework—strange worlds, complex puzzles, mysterious stories—but the meaningful moments belong to the players: the confusion-to-clarity breakthrough, the confident attempt followed by immediate failure, and the laughter and relief of finally solving it together. Reaching the end requires more than finding switches or solving puzzles; it demands listening, clear description, creative thinking, and above all, communication.
We Were Here Tomorrow is scheduled to launch on October 20, 2026, for Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The announced standard price is €19.99, $19.99, £16.99, or ¥2,600, with a 10% launch discount; as of September 28, 2026, the game is not yet available on Steam and is listed for release on October 20.
