Samsung launches world's first OLED monitor with 500 Hz refresh rate

In addition to the high speed, the new model offers the usual benefits of OLED panels, including robust protection against burn-in and a new anti-reflective coating.
The QD OLED panel of the new Odyssey G6 is the main highlight: at 27 inches and with a Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, this is the first screen with OLED technology to reach 500 Hz. Previously, monitors with this type of screen could only reach 480 Hz. The difference is small and will only be noticed by a small number of users, but it is welcome nonetheless.
Image quality is also a highlight: the new model boasts 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, Pantone certifications for accurate colour reproduction and DisplayHDR True Black 500 for HDR, as well as support for HDR10+ and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. There's also a Glare Free finish, similar to that used on the South Korean giant's OLED TVs, which reduces reflections by up to 54%.
For those who are still worried about investing in OLED monitors because of the risk of burn-in (permanent image marks), Samsung is highlighting the so-called “OLED Safeguard+”, a suite of screen protection features. The main element of the system is a robust set of heatpipes for cooling the panel, equipped with a coolant that is up to 5 times more efficient than the graphite plates used in other monitors.
In addition, there are software tools that counteract damaging behaviour: brightness is dynamically and automatically adjusted to prevent overheating, while the brightness of the taskbar, logos and other fixed elements can be fine-tuned. Finally, the screen reduces its brightness after 10 minutes of inactivity to prolong the life of the display.
The new Odyssey OLED G6 also scores well in terms of connectivity, with two HDMI 2.1 ports, DisplayPort 1.4, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports (at 5 Gbps) and a P2 port for headphones. It has a metal construction and the base is fully adjustable in height, tilt and swivel.
The package is rounded off by a very low response time of 0.03 ms (GtG), a common positive feature of OLED displays, a guarantee against burn-in during the viewing period and support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology in the AMD FreeSync Premium Pro (HDR compatible) and NVIDIA G-Sync standards.

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 2025 is initially available in four countries – Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia – with a suggested retail price of SG$1,688. (USD 1.250)
There are no global launch dates yet, but the giant has confirmed that it intends to make the peripheral available in more regions later this year.
