Switch Sports Resort offers 12 motion-controlled sports

Nintendo's sports party is back on Switch 2, this time spilling across a sunny island resort. Some events are brand new, others familiar faces, and a few rely on controller moves that feel more like instinct than button presses. Solo or with a friend, the island holds more surprises than the scoreboard suggests.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort arrives exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, bringing 12 sports that you can play solo or with a friend, in person or online, using intuitive motion controls. The game is set on Wuhu Island, a resort with tourist attractions and sports facilities. Nintendo's preview introduces the lineup by splitting it into new sports and returning favorites, spanning land, sea, and sky.

The new sports

The newcomers are Thumb Wrestling and Skateboarding. In Thumb Wrestling, you pin your opponent's thumb for three seconds to win. Nintendo's tip is that holding your thumb down makes it bigger and stronger. Skateboarding uses the Joy-Con 2 controller as a mouse so you can grind rails, slide around, and perform aerial tricks.

The returning sports

Power Cruising lets you explore the island using any pair of Joy-Con controllers to steer, and twisting the controller gives you an instant boost. Archery asks you to draw your arrow, aim, and go for the high score, but the wind may affect your shot. In Bowling, you can twist the controller to add spin to your throw.

Table Tennis offers quick, simple shots, while Boxing rewards different punches on the way to a K.O. In Prop Plane, you tilt the controller to speed up and roll in the air, then fire at balloons. Tennis uses any Joy-Con controller as your racket. Volleyball involves bumping, setting, and spiking past your opponent. Basketball covers dribbling, passing, and shooting. Golf asks you to adjust your shot and swing, with tips to aim for the distant hole and check your ball's trajectory.

Nintendo suggests starting any session with Jump Rope as a warm-up.
