Ten years after its release, No Man's Sky is marking the milestone with Cosmos, a massive overhaul to space itself—available free to existing PlayStation players today.

Reimagining Space as a Living Environment

Space has remained largely unchanged throughout the game's decade of updates, so Cosmos fundamentally reimagines it as a living environment. The update adds asteroid belts, space hulks, outposts, missions, anomalies, and a new map system to help players track and navigate systems.

Space-Based Activities and Features

Players can now engage in a variety of space-based activities. Massive “space hulks” can be stripped and salvaged using a physics gravity gun to pull metal chunks and transfer them via tractor beam to your ship—though tearing away too much risks triggering a catastrophic meltdown. Gorgeous asteroid belts filled with valuable crystal resources dot the solar system, with some large enough to land on and build star bases.

New space outposts allow players to trade with alien lifeforms, purchase maps, gather information, and accept missions. Some facilities have been overwhelmed by biological hazards requiring careful reclamation.

    Player-Owned Space Stations and Alliances

The update also introduces player-owned space stations. Players can now purchase a system's space station, building and decorating it both inside and externally with complete creative freedom—serving as everything from truck stops to orbital restaurants to military outposts. Free-floating modular bases can be constructed anywhere in space for additional customization.

Stations become the foundation for player Alliances, which allow members to work together building a networked empire of different stations and compete on new leaderboards for the largest, richest, or most prominent alliance.

A new challenge lets players undertake a perilous journey to reach the center of their own star system, with the sun at its heart.

    Anniversary Expedition

The 10th-anniversary expedition offers something special: each milestone corresponds to a specific No Man's Sky update from the 40+ released over the past decade. Each milestone's gameplay reflects features introduced in that update and includes logs about its development, creating what the developers describe as “a journey through time.”

Our game, our updates and our patch notes are a love letter from us to the community. Thank you so much for joining us. Our journey continues.
