Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ Extraction Mode

Call of Duty's most ambitious extraction shooter arrives October 23 with Modern Warfare 4. DMZ drops you into Hajin with a persistent Forward Operating Base where you manage gear, plan missions, and unlock new stations—but survival means mastering stealth, threat levels, and squad coordination across a map crawling with AI and hostile Operators.

DMZ is Call of Duty's definitive extraction shooter experience, launching alongside Campaign and Multiplayer when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23. Here's what you need to know to prepare for the new mode.

Forward Operating Base

The Forward Operating Base (FOB) serves as your command center for DMZ, where you manage progression, prepare gear, and plan deployments. As you complete Operations across Hajin, the FOB evolves from a foothold into a fully operational base with over a dozen stations.

Immediately accessible stations

  • Operators: Manage and select your Active Duty Operator for deployment.
  • DMZ Orders: Review missions downloaded to your Orders Tablet and earn rewards for completing structured objectives during deployments.
  • Stash/Loadout: Store looted items extracted from missions in your Stash, or equip weapons and gear for your next deployment.
  • Firing Range: Test your equipped weapons against various targets.
  • Deploy: Access the heavy-lift military transport for your next operation.

Continued successful deployments unlock additional stations

  • 3D Printer: Craft gear using Resources and 3D Printer Ingredients, and upgrade FOB stations.
  • Gunsmith: Purchase weapon attachments with DMZ Cash or build new weapons by extracting a Weapon Manual from Hajin.
  • Vendor: Purchase rotating daily inventory of weapons and gear with DMZ Cash.
  • Bounty Leaderboard: Gain intel on the most dangerous PvP hunters active across Hajin.
  • Boss Board: Track down high-value Lieutenants and face the exclusion zone's most dangerous enemies.
  • Dog Tag Case: Display trophies from defeated Operators.
  • DMZ Progression: Level up through a dedicated Progression Track (1-70), unlocking FOB stations and rewards at each step.

    Deployment Options

Customize your match by choosing from three deployment types:

    • Story Missions: Select and replay narrative objectives across Hajin for substantial rewards.
    • Dynamic Operations: Earn DMZ Cash and XP while completing objectives. Every completed Operation provides a Supply Drop of increasing rarity for your squad.
    • Free Roam: Deploy without a mission to explore Hajin City.

    Maximizing DMZ XP

Story Missions, Dynamic Ops, and Orders provide valuable gear and significant XP payouts.

Boss Hunts reward major XP alongside weapons and high-value loot when you defeat Lieutenants and Commanders roaming different map locations.

Consistent Looting acquires new items for the 3D Printer and improves your match rating.

After Action Reports assess your overall deployment rating based on enemy kills, looting, and completed objectives. Aim for S Tier performance or better for top rewards.

Vehicles scattered throughout Hajin enable faster travel across land, water, and air. Repair and refuel them at the Gas Station.

    Threat Levels

Each area of Hajin carries a particular Threat Level. Making noise triggers a violent area-specific enemy response, making stealth a strategic consideration.

DMZ represents only part of what Modern Warfare 4 offers at launch, with additional content coming in future updates. Modern Warfare 4 is available for pre-order now on PlayStation 5, launching October 23.

DMZ is included in Modern Warfare 4 as a core mode, and is not free to play with Warzone unlike DMZ Beta. You have to buy MW4 to play DMZ

The 'Forward Operating Base' in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ, like the 'Headquarters' from WW2: Walk around with your Squad to Test Weapons, Craft Items, Purchase from Vendors, and More!
