Siege Universe Expands with Tactics Spinoff

Rainbow Six Tactics, a new single-player turn-based tactical game, takes place within Siege's narrative. Players assume the role of Six, commanding Rainbow's elite force as a new global threat emerges. The two games share connected lore: the Siege and Tactics development teams collaborated to ensure canon content enriches both games individually while revealing a fuller picture of the Rainbow Six universe when played together.

Noor: A Shield-Breaking Answer

Year 9 Season 1's Operation Deadly Omen overhauled shield mechanics in Siege, making them more reliable but creating a need for new counterplay options. Noor, the newest Defender introduced in Operation Split Fire, was designed specifically to address shield-heavy teams.

His father is Jamal Murrad, a former Rainbow and Unit 777 Operator who longtime Rainbow players might recognize from Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear and Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield

Noor's primary gadget, the Horus Lance Launcher, fires a projectile that pierces shields and destructible objects before releasing flames on either side, severely burning nearby Operators. On impact, the projectile triggers a guard break, creating an opening for teammates. Enemies can swipe the projectile off their shield to stop the flames, creating another tactical opportunity. Developers recommend pairing Noor with Denari, Clash, Goyo, and Oryx to counter shield-heavy opposition when combined with drone reconnaissance and team communication.

Four Operators Per Year Starting Year 12

Beginning in Year 12, Siege will introduce four new Operators annually to deliver more content and keep the game evolving. Operator development timelines vary based on gameplay needs—Noor was created to address shield balance—and technical requirements. Skopos required years of development to realize his design, while Solid Snake had a smoother process despite requiring extensive collaboration with Konami for authenticity.

The development team prioritizes geography when designing Operators, aiming to bring characters from new countries while deepening connections with communities important to Siege's player base, reflecting the game's underlying message about global cooperation.

    Looking Forward

As Siege enters its new cadence, developers will continue refining core systems and gameplay balance. Confirmed future additions include new features, stories, and Operators, while the team actively develops a Hostage Rework. Based on player interest, 1v1 and 3v3 Arcade modes will receive expanded support in future seasons. The developers also hinted at further surprises, including the death of a playable Operator.

Rainbow Six Siege is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store, or through Ubisoft+.
