Intel 14th gen CPUs will have few improvements and will be more expensive than the 13th gen
It shouldn't be long before Intel finally unveils the 14th generation Core processors. Numerous details about these products have leaked over the past few months, and now, courtesy of the leaker @momomo_us on X (formerly Twitter), we have discovered the alleged prices of the desktop chip lineup known under the codename “Raptor Lake Refresh-S”.

While rumors suggest that the upcoming generation will see only a tiny performance jump compared to the 13th generation Core, the leaker revealed that the new 14th generation processors will come with significantly higher prices. For instance, the Core i9-14900K could be nearly a hundred dollars more expensive than the Core i9-13900K.

This information emerged just a few days after news broke that the new chips would only be around 3% faster than their respective predecessors. The Core i7-14700K might be the exception, showing more significant performance gains as it will feature an additional four low-power cores to aid in multitasking.
Speculation suggests that the 14th generation Core desktop processors will have the same lithography and architecture as the 13th generation. Additionally, all models except the Core i7-14700K will retain the same core count as their predecessors but will come with a slight increase in clock frequency.
Concurrently, a listing on a Ukrainian hardware store's website reinforced the expected specifications for the Core i9-14900K, Core i7-14700K, and Core i5-14600K. The screenshot below reveals that the top-tier model will have clock speeds of up to 6.0 GHz and a cache of 36 MB. Accordingly:
-
Core i9-14900K: 24 cores, 32 threads, 6.0 GHz clock speed, and 36 MB cache
-
Core i7-14700K: 20 cores, 28 threads, 5.6 GHz clock speed, and 33 MB cache
-
Core i5-14600K: 14 cores, 20 threads, 5.3 GHz clock speed, and 24 MB cache
Expectations are that Intel will announce the 14th generation Core family during the 2023 InnovatiON event, commencing on September 19, with a projected release date in October. Alongside the “Raptor Lake Refresh-S,” the company is also anticipated to unveil specifications for the “Meteor Lake” lineup designed for notebooks.
